Armed clashes between the junta and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) have been ongoing in Lone Khin Village Tract, Hpakant Township, Kachin State, since around 10:30 am on November 10.
The fighting between the two sides has involved both small arms fire and artillery shelling, a Hpakant Township resident told MNJ.
“I’ve heard that both sides are even using artillery in Lone Khin,” he said.
The junta has been clashing with the KIA and its ally, the Kachin People’s Defence Force (Kachin PDF), around Mawsisar Hilltop Monastery, the golf course, and the Myaukone and Lelpyin areas in the Lone Khin Village Tract.
Hpakant residents posted on social media on November 10, warning people to avoid traveling to Lone Khin as gunfire and artillery thuds have been heard.
At around 11:00 am on November 10, a junta vehicle was struck by a landmine near the Pawoo Tea Shop in Mawsisar Village, and two bombs blasted near the Sky Karaoke Lounge, a Hpakant resident reported.
A day earlier, a junta vehicle was struck by a mine blast near the Mawsisar main road and golf course. Following the incident, junta troops conducted door-to-door inspections of houses around the golf course.
In Hpakant Township, the junta is carrying out frequent military operations to expand its controlled territories, sparking regular clashes with the KIA-PDF alliance.
