Ethnic Organisations and NUG Meet Japan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Appeal for Humanitarian Aid

Representatives of ethnic organizations, including Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) Chairman Khu Oo Reh, and members of the National Unity Government (NUG) met with Masahiro Kōmura, deputy head of the Japanese Foreign Affairs Committee, in Japan on May 14, to discuss securing urgent humanitarian aid for Myanmar.

“ We trust that the Japanese government, its people, and organizations will understand the dire situation in Myanmar, and will extend humanitarian aid, education, and healthcare support to those

in need, spanning beyond Karenni State to the entirety of Myanmar. We also anticipate that this assistance will contribute to Myanmar's ongoing reform efforts”, Luiz, secretary of the International Alliance Relations Committee of KNPP said.

Luiz further conveyed to Kantarawaddy Times that the meeting extensively addressed Myanmar's prevailing military and political complexities, as well as urgent humanitarian aid requirements.

During the post-meeting announcement, the Japanese side pledged to enhance collaboration with ethnic organizations in addressing the Myanmar crisis. However Luiz emphasized that the dialogue between democratic forces and the Japanese government represents just the initial phase, with no concrete agreements reached.

Kōmura, a deputy foreign minister stated his intention to negotiate with all relevant stakeholders until an effective solution to the Myanmar crisis is found.
