Electric fencing touted as aid to livestock farmers in Rathedaung Twsp

Electric fencing is being erected in Kanbyin village, part of Arakan State’s Rathedaung Township, to support livestock farmers there.

The farmers will be able to do more work with less manpower, saving time and money, if they install electric fences, said U Tun Lin, who runs the Golden Egret electric fence business.

“The electric fence can be used in all three seasons and the machine comes with a one-year warranty,” he told DMG.

Ko Tun Lin said he learned firsthand about how electric fence systems could be used to support animal husbandry while working in Thailand, after which he decided to start his own electric fence business in Arakan State.

The materials required to build the electric fence are ordered from Thailand, and the service fee for installing the electric fence is K450,000 for three acres of land, K550,000 for four acres and negotiable for land above 10 acres, according to the Golden Egret electric fence business.

“At least two people have to herd my cattle. We are OK after the electric fence is installed,” said U Aung Kyan Soe, a resident of Rathedaung Township. “Installing an electric fence saves time and effort, and is very convenient to use.”

While this method of electric fencing is widely practiced among those who rear livestock in Thailand, it is said to be the first of its kind in Arakan State.
