Eight people, including a child, were killed and nine others injured when the junta carried out airstrikes on Arakan Army (AA)-controlled Kyauktaw and Mrauk-U towns in Arakan (Rakhine) State on February 12.
At around 9:10 p.m., a junta fighter jet dropped two 500-pound bombs on Paikthe Ward in Kyauktaw Town; one blast killed four people and injured nine others, while the second bomb failed to detonate.
On the same day, a junta airstrike hit the Waithali Hotel in Mrauk-U Town, killing four people, including a child.
In recent days, it has intensified air raids on AA-controlled townships in Arakan State, leading to an increase in civilian casualties.
On January 27, junta aircraft carried out a bombing strike on a public internet access point in Patkhwetseik Village, Ponnagyun Township.
On January 20, the coup regime carried out an airstrike on an AA detention facility in Chaungtu Village, Kyauktaw Township, killing 21 prisoners of war (PoWs) and their family members and injuring around 30 others.
These brutal aerial attacks have caused widespread civilian casualties in the Arakan State, leaving the local population living in constant fear of airstrikes.
