The Lutuv (Lautu) Region People’s Administration (LRPA) is supporting local farmers in areas where Lutuv communities live in Matupi, Hakha, and Thantlang townships of Chin State to promote large-scale dried chili exports, according to LRPA agriculture official Salai Anthony.

To achieve this goal, the LRPA is supporting farmers in several ways, including providing free seeds, Salai Anthony said.

“The main aim is to help farmers benefit by developing a market to export dried chilies to India. At the moment, the export price is not yet lucrative, with about 40,000 MMK for 3 kilograms. However, we hope to increase farmers’ income by producing and exporting in bulk. In addition to dried chilies, we also plan to export ginger in the future, and we will consider planting crops like corn if a stable market becomes available,” he told Chin World.

The LRPA is supporting farmers by providing free seeds, purchasing chilies from participating farmers at prices no lower than the market rate, offering interest-free loans to cover labor costs in the chili industry, and providing technical support.

The LRPA has encouraged local people to plant chili as part of efforts to support the community’s economy during the difficult period of the revolutionary struggle. Farmers interested in participating in the initiative can contact local People’s Administration officials to collect seeds, the LRPA said.

Lutuv region refers to areas mainly inhabited by Lutuv people in Matupi, Hakha, and Thantlang townships, covering Hnaring Town and 18 villages.
