Detained men from Kahtan Yang charged with unlawful associations

Two residents of Kahtan Yang Village under Hpakant Township, Kachin State have been charged under Section 17 (1) of the Unlawful Associations Act after they were detained by the Tatmadaw.

The two men - U Hpauyam La Sam and U Lapyaw Hkawng Dau – have arrived in Myitkyina to face their trial, according to officials from Myitkyina Myoma Police Station.

The first court hearing for their case will start on September 24.

Tatmadaw troops detained the two men at their homes at around 3 am last Wednesday (September 5).

Their family members have submitted pleas to the President, the State Counsellor, and respective departments for their immediate release.
