Several ethnic Dai groups have condemned the killing by the Matupi Chinland Defence Force (CDF) of an education officer who refused to stop working under the military regime in Matupi Township, Chin State.

A recent joint statement by the North American Dai Community and International CDF Dai Supporting Committee alleged that the CDF killed Tin Lwi without providing any justification for his assassination.

They said the Chin armed group failed to abide by a code of conduct set by the National Unity Government last February for the People’s Defence Forces fighting the Burma Army (BA) to overthrow the dictatorship.

The CDF could have arrested and investigated the educator, the statement said, but instead Tin Lwi was killed in front of his family in their home on 16 October.

The CDF claimed he threatened other educators for leaving their posts to join the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDF) and sent their names to the BA.

The armed group claimed Tin Lwi stole the salaries of staff who had joined CDF and worked closely with a retired army major named Win Naing.

The CDF reportedly sent him three warning letters, who threatened them, so they killed him.

The day after Tin Lwi was killed, the armed group released its own statement, calling him a traitor to the people.
