CNO/CNDF pays military deserter 5 million kyats

The Chin National Organization / Chin National Defense Force (CNO/CNDF) paid a junta soldier 5 million kyats (approximately $2,700 USD) who deserted and joined them with his weapon and ammunition.

Previously the CNO/CNDF had made public statements saying it would pay 5 million kyats to any Military Council soldier who deserted and joined the CNO/CNDF with their weapon and ammunition.

The organization paid 5 million kyats to Htet Myat Aung, a soldier from Infantry Battalion (268) based in Falam Town, Chin State who joined the organization after deserting with his weapon and ammunition from Infantry Battalion (268) based in Falam Town, Chin State.

“We gave him his prize money during our conference”, It is released now due to communication difficulties.” said a CNDF representative.

According to the CNO/CNDF 40 police and soldiers in the area have deserted , and of those, five have joined the group with their weapons and ammunition.

The CNO/CNDF has been involved in 58 clashes with junta forces and has killed nearly 400 junta personnel since the coup on 1 February 2021.

According to the National Unity Government (NUG) over 10,000 personnel from the junta army and police force have deserted and joined anti-government forces.
