Six civilians were killed during May due to attacks by the military junta in Karenni State, including the Shan-Karenni border area, according to the Karenni Human Rights Group.

Among the six civilians killed, one child died in an airstrike, four men were killed by heavy artillery, and one woman died in another incident.

Additionally, in the same month of May, a total of 32 civilians were injured, with 24 by airstrikes, 6 by artillery shelling, and 2 by landmines.

“Civilian casualties aren’t just from airstrikes or artillery fire by the junta. Even incidents like landmine explosions, where some happen while people are simply traveling, are ultimately caused by the junta’s actions. Even when dead bodies are discovered, they are linked to the military and its operations,” a local man commented on the increasing number of civilian deaths as the conflict continues.

Due to the military junta’s various forms of attack, civilian homes have also been damaged. According to records compiled by the Karenni Human Rights Group, 13 homes were damaged or destroyed by artillery shelling within a month.

These attacks were carried out in areas including Loikaw, Demoso, Hpasaung, and Pekhon.
