Buthidaung Township student being treated at Sittwe Hospital

Ma Mya Thazin, a 14-year-old student, was hit by a piece of shrapnel in Zedi Taung village in Buthidaung Township, and is now receiving medical treatment at the Sittwe hospital on 3 October.

Zedi Taung Station hospital transferred her to the Sittwe hospital, said Daw Hla Thein Khin, the victim’s mother.

“The doctor injected her and told us to send her to the Sittwe hospital, and also said that she needed to have an x-ray image because her injury is serious,” said Daw Hla Thein Khin.

The girl has been taking shelter in Zedi Taung village after fleeing from Kun Taung village in Buthidaung Township because of skirmishes and received a shrapnel wound while she was preparing to study her lessons at her house, her mother said.

“Shells landed on the house when my daughter was about to study her lessons so she fled outside,” she added.

The girl got a 2-inch cut in her belly. Her family said that the attack was carried out by the Tatmadaw stationed in the Nwar Yone Taung hill in Buthidaung Township.

The head of Western Command Colonel Win Zaw Oo, however, said, “We didn’t fire weapons yesterday. We don’t attack if there is no fighting”.

Over 10-months old clashes have erupted between the Tatmadaw and Arakan Army (AA) in Arakan State killing more than 80 civilians and injuring more than 130, said State Hluttaw representatives.
