Burma Army Suffers Causality During Conflict With TNLA

A Tatmadaw soldier died and a civilian was injured during clashes with Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Namkham Township, northern Shan state, according to a Wan Namma resident, one of three villages where the fighting broke out Sunday, August 8.

The source said they discovered a shell that didn’t detonate in their village in Muse District. Another source in Wan Namm explained a 70-year-old’s upper teeth were shattered during clashes.

Residents from Namkham town, located only a mile from the conflict zone, reported hearing heavy weapons fired. SHAN tried to reach TNLA for a comment about the fighting but couldn’t get through to anyone.

TNLA and the Shan State Progress Party are fighting with the Restoration Council of Shan State in northern Shan State. This year the conflict displaced thousands of villagers and caused civilian fatalities and the destruction of dozens of homes.

Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), in the Northern Alliance with TNLA, has been fighting with BA in Pang Seng sub township, in Muse Township, since August. More than 300 people displaced by clashes are struggling for food and shelter.

“Most of the internally displaced persons are seniors, women and children,” said a woman, who asked for her name to not be published, explaining they also need insect repellent and plastic to protect them from the rain.

Kachin Independence Army, also in the Northern Alliance, is fighting with the military in Muse District.
