Burma Army Bombs Loikaw Clinic

A regime fighter jet bombed a clinic and a house in eastern Loikaw Township, Karenni State, on Tuesday morning, 9 August, killing one man and injuring two people.

“The clinic and house were completely destroyed in the attack, which killed a 70-year-old man,” a source told Kantarawaddy Times, asking that his name not be published. There were no clashes in the village where displaced civilians have taken refuge from the conflict.

According to the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force, an armed group fighting the Burma Army, the junta’s Artillery Battalion 250, based in Loikaw town, attacked the village on the same day with Multiple Launch Rocket System missiles while the students were at the school set up by teachers who’d joined the protest movement against the dictatorship. Although none of the children were injured, they fled with their families into the jungle.

Airstrikes on villages have been common in Karenni state since the coup happened nearly two years ago.
