Burma Army Attacking Civilians in Shan State

Two men are in critical condition after the Burma Army shot them in southern Shan State in an area where the military is launching an offensive against the civilian defense group Karenni Nationalities Defence Force.

The Tatmadaw randomly attacked the victims, one is 35-years-old and another is 19- years- old, in Mong Pai (also known as Mobyel) town located in Hpai Khun Township.

A man from the town who knew about the incident suspects a sniper shot them. He explained a bullet passed through the cheeks of one and the other shot in his armpit.

Locals outraged the Army is treating everyone as rebels told SHAN attacks on civilians are becoming increasingly common. The military shot the pedestrians at 7 pm, which is one hour before the start of the curfew.

In northern Shan State, the Army attacked a village in Kutkai Township on June 3, close to where ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) attacked it the day before.

The military fired at least 10 rounds of artillery at Ta’ang National Liberation Army and Arakan Army near Kho Lon village.

It sent in two combat helicopters and they also flew over Kutkai town causing fearful residents to stay indoors. Villagers from Kho Lon fled their homes during the clash.

Both EAOs are part of the Northern Alliance with the Kachin Independence Army, a group frequently clashing with Tatmadaw in the township.
