A bomb exploded in the compound of Zawana Electric Power Corporation (EPC), Thingangyun township, Yangon region at 7 am on January 2, according to local residents.

Myanmar Defence Force - Yangon, an urban guerrilla group in the Area-21 network, said in a statement on its Area-21 social network that they carried out the attack.

The statement added that a “terrorist Myanmar soldier” could be killed and other damage may be occurred.

According to local residents, no one was injured in the blast.

"It is a public holiday and there are no people around, so no one was affected," said a local resident.

Area-21 also said that the holiday was chosen to avoid harm to the people who come to the EPC office to pay their electricity bills.

They warned that they will not take responsibility for the life of government staff making money for Military Council and “people paying for bullets”.

Soldiers guarded the front of the Zawana EPC office. There is also a police station situated opposite the EPC office, and a police barracks on Lay Daunt Kan Road next to the police station.
