Min Di Par, the young author from Pan Maw village in Arakan State’s Mrauk-U Township, was officially charged under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law on December 10, according to a lawyer.
The Mrauk-U District Court decided to move forward with the case against him after hearing statements from lawyers for both the prosecution and the defense, said lawyer U Kyaw Soe Linn from the Thazin Legal Institute.
“The next court hearing will examine recalled witnesses,” he added.
Min Di Par, aka Ko Aung Naing Myint, was arrested on October 15 and Police Captain Soe Tin from Mrauk-U police station opened a lawsuit against him under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, accusing him of providing financial support to the anti-regime People’s Defence Force (PDF).
“The situation I saw in his case is that they want to send him to jail,” said Ko Aung Myint, the elder brother of Min Di Par. “They can do what they want to do.”
The 23-year-old author’s next hearing has been scheduled for December 16.
At least five women and three men have been arrested and accused of ties to the PDF in Arakan State over recent weeks; six in Thandwe District and one each in Mrauk-U and Kyaukphyu districts.
