The junta has moved former State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi from prison to house arrest in a house reserved for deputy ministers in the Myanmar capital Naypyitaw.

According to BBC Burmese a source with connections to Naypyitaw Prison, where Aung San Suu Kyi was being held, said she was being transferred to the house. The BBC asked the junta if this was true, but received no reply.

Aung San Suu Kyi was moved by the junta from house arrest to solitary confinement in a specially built area of Naypyitaw prison in June 2022.

A source from the legal community who sends parcels to Aung San Suu Kyi said they knew nothing about the reported move.

They said: “We don’t exactly know what happened regarding the relocation. We sent parcels to her [Aung San Suu Kyi] yesterday [24 July]. We are also investigating what happened.”On 9 July, the caretaker Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs, Don Pramudwinai, visited Aung San Suu Kyi.

Mizzima has, until now, been unable to confirm whether Aung San Suu Kyi has been moved from prison to house arrest.
