Around seven million Yaba pills seized within three and a half months in Rakhine State

Around seven million Yaba pills have been seized within a period of three and a half months from May 2 to August 17 in the Rakhine State.

According to the government’s announcement, 4,191,430 Yaba pills have been seized in the Rakhine State from May 2 to August 13.

A total of 2,766,000 Yaba pills were seized in Maungdaw on August 17 so a total of 6,957,430 Yaba pills have been seized in the Rakhine State within a period of three and a half months.

“The seizure in Maungdaw was made on a vehicle carrying ginger sacks, which was parked near Shwe Zar police outpost, at 9 pm on August 17. Various teams made the seizure after receiving a report. The people from the vehicle fled inside Shwe Zar Village. The security teams were suspicious of the vehicle so they drove it to Maungdaw Police Station and found 2,766,000 Yaba pills inside the ginger bags,” Police Captain Tun Tun Oo from Maungdaw District Anti-Narcotic Task Force said to Narinjara News.

These pills were found inside ginger sacks. Each bag contained 10,000 pills and each packing contained five bags. A total of 59 packing have been seized.

“Three hundred pills were also seized in the morning on August 18. Two women have been arrested. The groups in front of the office searched Lay Thar Auk Village since 6:30 am and seized them at 8:30 am,” he said.

According to the government’s announcement,  4,191,430 stimulant tablets, 0.0035 kg of crushed stimulant tablet powder and 13.76802 kg of marijuana have been seized from May 2 to August 13 and the total value amount to Ks 12.577,379,500 trillion. Ninety-four cases have been opened in relation to these cases and 132 people have been arrested.

The total number of ownerless seized pills, which were seized at around 9 pm on August 17 in Maungdaw, is 2,766,000 and the value amounts to Ks 8.298 billion.

A total of 11,314,701 stimulant tablets, 2.5903 kg of crushed stimulant tablet powder, and 0.1549 kg of marijuana have been seized in Maungdaw, Buthidaung, and Rathedaung townships from January 1 to August 14 within this year. Eighty-four cases have been opened and 128 people have been arrested, according to the announcement released by the government on August 15.

These Yaba pills are not manufactured in the Rakhine State and they are trafficked from the eastern border areas of Myanmar to Maungdaw via land and water routes after passing through central Myanmar with the aim to transport them to Bangladesh via Maungdaw.
