The 44th Ramannya Nikaya Pariyatti Examination will be held from the 1st to the 3rd waxing day of Ta Paung (February 16 to 18), with around 2,000 monks from across the Mon region expected to take part, according to officials from the Ramannya Nikaya.
The examination will be held again this year at the Religion 2500 Monastery in Mawlamyine, Mon State, following a decision made at a meeting in late December.
Monks from different parts of the Mon region are expected to arrive on the Ta Paung new moon day. The number of monks sitting for the exam may exceed 2,000, according to the Ramannya Nikaya deputy secretary, who spoke to the Independent Mon News Agency (IMNA).
Although the exact number of participants has not yet been confirmed, officials said preparations are underway. As the examination is held annually, Mon donors are familiar with the event and continue to provide strong support. In addition to monks, many donors attend the examination, making the venue crowded. Due to limited accommodation, meals are sometimes served in two rounds, but organizers said they will try to manage the situation smoothly again this year.
More than 100 monks, including senior advisory monks, supervisors, examiners, and assistant monks, are involved in organizing and conducting the examination.
Monks traveling from Ye Township and Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region have been advised to arrive a few days early due to possible travel delays caused by the ongoing conflict.

“There is nothing unusual this year. Although a new committee has been formed, most members are experienced. Mon people from areas such as Khawzar, Yebyu, and Kawthoung also arrive early, and donor support remains strong,” an official monk said.
The Ramannya Nikaya Pariyatti Examination is conducted at five levels: Basic, Lower, Middle, Upper, and Dhammacariya.
Since the year 1343 of the Myanmar Era, Mon-language Pariyatti examinations and publications have been conducted under the Ramannya Dhammacariya name. The current examination marks the 44th year under the Ramannya Nikaya Pariyatti team.
