The commission that was introduced by the new government last week to look into the Arakan State issue includes three high-profile foreigners in its nine-member team.

Pyithu Hluttaw MP U Aung Kyaw Zan for Pauktaw submitted the motion, claiming that the appointment of non-nationals in the commission, including former U.N Secretary-General Kofi Annan, would interfere in the country’s internal affairs.

He said: “The commission, which is led by those that only knows wrong information via international media and does not have a clear understanding of the history and actual situation of the Arakan area and are obsessed with democracy and human rights instigations, will be able to create an internal issues into an international issue so I believe this can harm the security and rule of the law of the country.”

Taking in account the delicate nature the Arakan’s issue has for national security and the country’s sovereignty, Aung Kyaw Zan urged parliament solve it among national brethren without being advised by non-nationals
