Two civilians were killed and two others were injured in an airstrike on the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)-held Thibaw (Hsipaw) Town in Shan State, on 14 July 2025.
A junta fighter jet dropped two bombs on Thibaw Town, the administrative seat of Thibaw Township in Kyaukme District, at about 6:00 pm on 14 July. One of the bombs exploded near Immanuel Church and the other exploded in the compound of the Tai House Resort Hotel in Taungmyo Ward.
This was the second airstrike on Thibaw Town in July this year. It killed two civilians and injured a further two. It also damaged the Tai House Resort Hotel, the Thibaw Mobile Phone Shop, Nan Daewi Restaurant, and Shwe Lone Barbershop along the Mandalay to Lashio Union Highway near the church.
A resident of Thibaw Town said to Shan Herald: “A bomb hit Nan Daewi Restaurant, right near Immanuel Church. Two people were killed, one of them from the nearby Shwe Lone Barbershop, and two others were seriously injured. We’re still not sure if there were more casualties. Another bomb also fell inside the Tai House Resort compound.”
Previously, on 4 July 2025, a junta airstrike dropped two 250 pound bombs on the Thibaw People’s Hospital and Municipal Avenue, destroying one of the hospital’s operating rooms and five buildings in the Municipal compound, according to the TNLA. Fortunately, on that occasion there were no deaths or casualties.
Between 24 June and 12 July 2025, the junta carried out eight airstrikes on two TNLA-held towns in Kyaukme District. As well as the two airstrikes on Thibaw Town there were a further six airstrikes on Kyaukme Town that killed eight civilians and injured about 28 others during that period.
The TNLA and its allies captured Kyaukme Town on 6 August 2024 and captured Thibaw Town six days later on 12 August 2024.
