Airstrike on makeshift Kale Township clinic kills and injures PDF members

A junta jet fighter dropped a 500-pound bomb on a makeshift clinic in a school in Sawbwaryaeshin Village in Sagaing Region’s Kale Township, killing one people’s defence force (PDF) member and injuring three others.

The attack happened shortly after 3:00 pm on 27 August. The PDF members who were killed and injured had been helping at the makeshift clinic at the time of the attack, which took place despite there being no fighting or recent fighting in the area.

A representative of the Kale Township People’s Administration Team said to Mizzima: “The school was being used as a makeshift clinic. One PDF comrade who was attending to the patients was killed, while the remaining three sustained non-life-threatening injuries.”

As well as causing casualties, the airstrike also caused significant structural damage to the school’s roof and walls.

Observers said that the junta fighter jet returned to Tada U airbase in Tada-U Township, Mandalay Region.

Some believe that the junta had targeted the school after they found out that it was being used as a clinic and that PDF members were helping out there when people had carelessly talked about it.

Junta forces and their allied Pyu Saw Htee militias have been entering wards at night to arrest and detain young people and conscript them into the military, according to Kale Town residents.
