In Thaton Township in northern part of Mon State, the KNU Brigade No. 1 has reported that there are approximately 3,000 local residents being compelled to flee their homes. The reason behind this mass displacement is the military junta's relentless firing of motor shells in the region.

During the morning of 21st July, the armed forces of the military junta launched mortar shells into the residential areas of Kazine and Ashuinnvillages, in Thaton Township.

A 35-year-old woman named Daw Ma Win was injured by mortar shells fired by the Military Junta.

Additionally, at approximately 8:00 p.m., seven more mortar shells were fired and exploded in Kyonmain village and Kaw Hlaing village, both located in Thaton Township. The KNU central has reported that the local base of the military junta often fires mortar shells.

About 2,892 individuals from 501 households in Shweyaungpya Village, Zeewon Village, and Awinkyi Village, located in Thaton Township's Shweyaungpya Village Group, have been forced to flee due to the relentless firing of mortar shells.

In Kyaikhto Township, both Hngetpyawtaw Village Group and Ahlu Village Group, military junta troops fired mortar shells and launched attacks, forcing 699 households and 3,149 people to seek safety elsewhere.

According to the KNU center, there have been 2,495 clashes between the K.N.L.A joint forces and the military junta within the KNU Kawthoolei control areas from January 1, 2023, to June 30, 2023. The KNU has further claimed that the fighting continues in Karen State, with the military junta being accused of committing various forms of war crimes and human rights violations.

According to the KNU GHQs source, the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the areas has reached nearly 600,000 people in Karen State.
