AA Seizes Ponnagyun Township Near Sittwe -Rakhine's Capital

AA’s String of Successes – the Capture of 2 District Capitals, and 7 Townships in a period of a 3- month-long Offensive

In over three months fighting, the Arakan Army (AA) has solidified its hold on two district capitals and seven townships after capturing Ponnagyun Township near Sittwe on March 4th.

The two district capitals that have been captured by AA are Mrauk-U and Paletwa, and the seven townships are Paletwa, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Pauktaw, Minbya, Myebon, and Ponnagyun.

AA announced that on March 4th, despite the Junta's strong defense, including its Army, Navy, and Air Force, AA's Arakanese warriors managed to successfully capture the 550th Light Infantry Battalion based in Ponnagyun Township.

"On March 4th, 2024, the 550th Light Infantry Battalion, the last battalion stationed in Ponnagyun Township, was seized by AA's Arakanese warriors despite heavy resistance from the Junta’s Army, Navy and Air Force. As a result, AA has assumed complete control of Ponnagyun Township”, AA’s statement said.

The statement reiterated that AA remains resolute in its offensive against the military installations of the terrorist Military Council in Rakhine State, and also pursuing fleeing enemy soldiers still refusing to surrender, all the while adhering strictly to designated operational objectives.

Military analysts in Rakhine State report that AA has launched relentless offensives against the Junta's battalions in Buthidaung and Rathedaung townships, as well as military bases in northern Maungdaw Township, leading to speculation that one township after another may soon be captured by AA.
