General Twan Mrat Naing, the chief of the Arakan Army (AA) said that the airstrike on a concert at A Nang Pa Village in Hpakant Township should act as a call to arms for the Myanmar population to rid itself of the Myanmar junta.

The airstrike, by three fighter jets, on a concert celebrating the Kachin Independence Organisation’s (KIO) 62nd anniversary in A Nang Pa Village, in Kachin State’s Hpakant Township happened at about 8:30 p.m. on 24 October. It killed at least 60 civilians and injured over 100.

On 25 October, in response to the incident, General Twan Mrat Naing tweeted: "For how many more innocent civilian lives do we have yet to grieve? For how many more heroes do we yet have to sacrifice? What just happened in Phakkant last night is a clarion call for concerted action to exterminate the military fascism.”

Colonel Naw Bu, a Kachin Independence Army (KIA) spokesman, told Mizzima in a private interview that the sudden air attack on a civilian target was an "inhumane act" and a war crime.

He said: “Instead of sorrow, I want to encourage people to quickly carry out revolutionary missions.”

On 24 October the three Northern Alliance members, the AA, the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) issued a statement condemning the junta’s inhuman Hpakant airstrike targeting civilians and calling on the international community to take urgent actions against the junta regime to prevent further bloodshed.

The statement also said that it is time for all ethnic armed groups to stand together and take effective action against the junta regime to put an end to the military dictatorship and the daily commission of crimes against humanity.
