AA announces retaliation against the Tatmadaw in Arakan State

Collaborating with allies and Arakanese people, the AA is to retaliate against the Tatmadaw, the AA announced on 25 August.

Three children were killed and four others were injured in Pan Myaung village, Minbya Township, due to the landing of an artillery shell on their home which was fired by the Tatmadaw on 24 August, villagers said.

“Any military troops are not allowed to leave well from Arakanese land after killing our people,” said the AA’s spokesperson Khaing Thukha said.

The AA’s announcement said that the nominal democratic government led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is hiding the real situation in Arakan State by blocking the Internet access in the conflict affected areas.

Khaing Thukha suggested Arakanese people not to travel at night in the regions where military operations are conducting and to make bomb shelters under houses because armed confrontations would become much more aggressive in Arakan State.

The Three Northern Alliances on 25 August also warned local residents in northern Shan State to establish bomb shelters as a precaution against getting hit by bombs and other incendiary devices.

Myanmar’s Tatmadaw welcomes peace but is also ready for fighting, Major General Soe Naing Oo, chairperson of the Tatmdaw True News Information Team, said in the press conference held at Nay Pyi Taw’s Defence Services Museum on 23 August.

Meanwhile, the five-day meeting of the Peace Process Steering Team held in Chiang Mai, Thailand urged both sides to resolve differences peacefully through political talks regarding the current fighting between the Tatmadaw and the Three Northern Alliance and the ongoing clashes in Arakan State.
