8 members of Military Council killed in Kawthaung battle

In the Kawthaung battle between the Military Council and the Revolutionary Joint Forces, there were casualties on both sides, and 8 members of the Military Council were killed and many were injured.

In Kawthaung district, Shankoe village and Winedin village on the Myanmar-Thailand border, there was fierce fighting for more than 3 hours and there were injuries on both sides, residents said.

A PDF-Kawthaung information official said, "They have been firing artillery shells from the Khamauk Gyi side for the past 6 days. We have received information that the military is reinforcing forces to conduct combat operations in this direction."

The incident occurred in the villages of Aye Mya Mingalar, Tat Oo Myaing Tharyar, Winedin, Parklat in Kawthaung district, which are controlled by KNU, KTLA and People's Defense Forces.

Kawthaung People's Defense Force No. 1 Battalion reported on February 23 that after the Military Council troops of about 170 soldiers fired 2 artillery shells for clearance operations and arrived at Winedin village to conduct combat operations, the battle broke out between the Military Council troops and the joint People's Defense Force.

It is said that the fighting started at about 12:30 PM on February 21, and the Military Council retreated at about 3:30 PM.

According to the statement, 8 members of the Military Council were killed and 50 others were injured during the battle.

A member of the People's Defense Force and a comrade from the Kawthoolei Army (KTLA) were injured (non-critically) after being hit by artillery shells.

According to the PDF-Kawthaung information officer, 136 residents of Shankoe village have fled the war to the Thai after the Winedin battle.

Those helping the IDPs said that the Thai government officials have come and provided food and medicine, including tents, as humanitarian aid for the IDPs.

Similarly, on February 23 at around 5:00 am, Kawthaung Township People's Defense Force reported that two Military Council soldiers were injured after a Military Council outpost on the roadside of the Union Highway near Maliwan Falls between Kawthaung township and Khamauk Gyi township was shot.
