4 Bangladeshi fishermen arrested for poaching fish in Rakhine waters

Khaing Lu Hla (Roma Mray) — The Arakan Army (AA) Coast Guard has arrested 4 Bangladeshi fishermen for poaching fish in Rakhine waters.

The AA Coast Guard arrested the Bangladeshi fishermen after they were caught poaching fish in Rakhine waters 850 meters from the Nat River at around 8 am on March 17.

Currently, the AA is taking steps to take legal action against the 4 fishermen who were arrested in accordance with the law enacted by the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government.

Although the Rakhine Sea is rich in water resources, local Rakhine people are unable to engage in fishing activities widely due to security and regional instability, and Bangladeshi fishermen are taking advantage of this situation and are often poaching fish in Rakhine waters.

The Arakan Army frequently arrests and takes action against these poachers. On February 16, it was learned that 73 Bangladeshi fishermen who were arrested for illegally fishing in Rakhine waters were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) by the Arakan Army.
