21 POWs and Prisoners Released in Paletwa District on Arakan Army Anniversary

Khaing Lu Hla (Roma Mray) — To mark the 17th anniversary of the Arakan Army (AA), the ULA/AA has released 21 prisoners, including prisoners of war (POWs) and civilian detainees, in Paletwa District, Chin State, on April 10, 2026.

This release, which marks the 12th such occurrence in Paletwa District, included military POWs up to the rank of captain, who were escorted to meet their families.

"Starting from the rank of captain, we brought them to their families and organized a ceremony to formally hand them over," an official told Narinjara.

The total of 21 released individuals consists of 9 army POWs, 4 police POWs, 1 female civilian prisoner, and 7 male civilian prisoners.

The AA previously released 31 POWs in Paletwa District in March.

"The AA has treated the prisoners in accordance with the law, providing food, shelter, and medical care. I am very grateful to return home in good health," said a family member of one of the released civilians.

According to sources close to the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government (APRG), the AA plans to continue releasing prisoners of war and civilian detainees across other districts in Rakhine to honor the 17th anniversary of its establishment.

The Arakan Army was founded on April 10, 2009, in a KIA-controlled area of Linza by 26 Arakanese comrades.
