2 brothers from Paletwa, Chin State sentenced to prison for sedition and Unlawful Association Act

Two brothers, U Saw Hla (29) and Maung San Phyo (25) from Paletwa in Chin state, charged with Section 505(A) of the Sedition Act and Section 17(1) of the Unlawful Association Act, were sentenced to 3 years in prison each, a family member said.

“The elder brother U Saw Hla was sentenced to 3 years in prison under Section 505(A) of the Sedition Act on December 12 th , and Maung San Phyo, the younger brother, received three-year jail term under Section 17(1) of the Unlawful Association Act on December 14th”, he told Narinjara.

The Junta soldiers came and arrested the two of them on October 13th and 14th. The Regime troops not only handcuffed and blindfolded the two brothers when they took them away, but also assaulted them along the road, according to their family.

“The two of them were working as masons in Rakhine state. We hope that they will be released soon, as a ceasefire has been reached with AA. Everyone is devastated that two innocent people

have been sentenced to prison like this”, the family member added.

The Military Council had also charged U Chit San, a nearly 70-year-old elderly man with underlying health conditions from Abaung Tha village in Paletwa township, under Section 505(A) of the Sedition Act, and the Junta-controlled Sittwe township court sentenced him to 3 years in prison on October 26th.
