NUG Acting President: Weapons Supplied to Battalions, Negotiations with EAOs in Progress

NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La has stated that the Spring Revolution, which originally began with Tumee rifles (muskets), has successfully formed several battalions equipped with modern weapons in just two years. Negotiations are currently underway with ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) to establish a federal democracy.

The NUG Acting President delivered this message during his state speech on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the declaration of the people's resistance war against the junta on September 7.

"We began with hand-made Tumee rifles to defend our local villages, but we have now progressed to the point where we can establish strategic battalions. These organized units are equipped with automatic rifles and can attack the (regime’s) terrorist troops. Across three military regions, we have formed over 300 People's Defense Forces battalions, collaborating closely with ethnic armed resistance allied forces to advocate for the establishment of a federal democratic union. Moreover, we are also capable of administering judicial functions and providing public services within our respective jurisdictions."

The Acting President of NUG added that,” The revolution has reached a turning point  with military achievements steadily increasing/ Our revolution, which initially started as a response to injustice using tools such as sticks, knives, and Tumee rifles, has successfully equipped numerous battalions with weapons over a period of more than two years. We have effectively expanded our territorial control. It's essential to underscore that these achievements are the result of the unwavering dedication of our comrades and the support of the public."

He stated that security for the military leaders presently located in Nay Pyi Taw is uncertain, as the conflict has the potential to expand to all regions, including a possible military threat to Nay Pyi Taw.

NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La further added that alongside territorial control and the ongoing conflict, negotiations are underway with relevant revolutionary forces to establish a federal and democratic union with the principles of self-determination, the ability to create our own destiny, equality, and freedom – all of which are the aspirations of the entire nation.

"Currently, there is a strengthening of unity, mutual understanding, and trust between the ethnic armed alliance forces and the National Unity Government, encompassing military and political collaboration as well as financial cooperation. Detailed discussions are underway between the ethnic revolutionary armed organizations and the revolutionary forces to pave the way for the establishment of a future federal democracy."

After the military coup, individuals who rejected the coup engaged in peaceful demonstrations, while the elected members of parliament who had won the 2020 election came together to establish both the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the National Unity Government (NUG). Likewise, the People's Defense Force (PDF) was officially established.

Following this, on September 7, 2021, NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La declared the commencement of the people's resistance war, which represents a revolutionary attack against the Military Council troops responsible for brutally suppressing peaceful protestors.
