More than 1,300 Students Absent from Matriculation Exam in Chin State, with Just Over 400 Participants

Only 401 out of 1723 students registered from Chin State took the matriculation exam starting on March 11 nationwide, leaving a significant absenteeism of 1,322.

Seven exam centers have been established across high schools in Hakha, Falam, Tedim, Tonzang, Cikha, Mindat, and Matupi within Chin State for the 2024 matriculation exam.

According to the regional education office’s list, the exam was taken by 72 students in Hakha, 83 in Falam, 119 in Tedim, 11 in Tonzang, 80 in Cikha, 2 in Mindat, and 34 in Matupi, respectively.

In Chin State, initial plans aimed to establish exam centers in two high schools in Paletwa Township and another in Samee Township, with Paletwa having the highest number of registered students for the test centers. However due to escalating conflict in Paletwa, the exam could not proceed as scheduled.

The Ministry of Education has announced that 14,6523 students are registered nationwide to participate in the 2024 matriculation exam.

This year's matriculation exam marked the introduction of the new education format. In last year's exam, administered under the old system, 13 exam centers were established in various townships across Chin State, excluding Kanpetlet and Thantlang. A total of 2,824 students participated in the exam, with 2,045 successfully passing, resulting in a pass rate of 72.42%, positioning Chin State as the fourth-best region in Myanmar.
