Military Council's Airstrikes in Chin State Kills Displaces Over 7000

Chin State — A series of airstrikes conducted by the Military Council in the town of Lailenpi, Matupi Township, Chin State, resulted in the tragic death of four civilians and left three others injured. The rapidly deteriorating security conditions also forced over 7000 residents to flee from the town, seeking refuge elsewhere according to locals.

A local witness informed Khonumthung News that starting from approximately 9:00am on November 19th until November 21st, the Military Council employed jet fighters to carry out successive bombardments on Lailenpi.

“There were 4 people killed and 3 injured – all civilians. They were also displaced during the fighting, but while they sought shelter at their grandparents' place, a Military Council fighter plane shot them when they stepped outside for a bit”, the source said.

Chinland Defense Force (CDF) and allied resistance forces used drones to bomb a Military Council outpost with approximately 30 personnel in Lailenpi on November 19th. In response, the Military Council retaliated with airstrikes, indiscriminately targeting the civilian areas.

U Mecha and U Ngukha, both in their 50s, were among the casualties in the Military Council's airstrikes. The identities of the other two victims remain unknown as their bodies have not been recovered yet. The three injured civilians are in critical condition and are currently undergoing emergency treatment in the liberated areas.

The majority of Lailenpi residents have temporarily relocated to nearby villages and areas along the Indian border. Facing transportation challenges, some have sought refuge in hillside farming and forest areas. Humanitarian workers aiding them report an urgent need for accommodation, food, and other assistance.

"Lailenpi town is nearly empty now. Villagers are seeking refuge in the forests or neighboring villages. They couldn't bring essential items like rice and oil, causing many difficulties. Yesterday, it rained in Lailenpi, making life tough for those sheltering in the forests. They also lack tarpaulin sheets for makeshift roofs”, an aid worker told Khonumthung News.

In Lailenpi, the impact of the Military Council's airstrikes goes beyond civilian casualties. Initial reports indicate that over 50 houses and various structures, including school buildings  have been damaged. The figures on this list are expected to rise as more information becomes available.

Despite the absence of ongoing armed clashes on November 21st, at approximately 11:50 AM, the Military Council's aircraft returned and carried out another bombing mission in Lailenpi, locals said.
