The Karenni resistance Launches Self-Governing System Free from External Interference Karenni State

The Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) has announced the creation of a democratic system of local self-governance in Karenni State, two years after the launch of the Spring Revolution, emphasizing its independence from external interference by any organization or dictator.

U Aung San Myint, Secretary-2 of KNPP, stated that, “after more than two years of the Spring Revolution, the Karenni armed resistance forces have gained control over more than half of Karenni State's territory, enabling the implementation of this self-governance system.”

He further explained,“ this has allowed us to independently oversee administration, enact legislation, and manage judicial functions. To facilitate this, we've established the KSCC and IEC, effectively managing our state affairs and exercising our right to self-determination."

The Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) and the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) are reported to be overseeing administrative, legislative, and judicial functions.

At present the Karenni armed resistance forces claim to exercise control over more than 65 percent of the state's territory, while the Military Council troops holds  authority over only10 percent. The remaining area, constituting over 20 percent, is designated as a war zone where both the resistance forces and the Military Council troops have a presence, as reported by KNPP.

U Aung San Myint added that while the right to forge one's own destiny and practice self-governance can be initiated in Karenni State, the establishment of a federal democratic union on a national scale necessitates a collective effort from all states and regions in the country to liberate themselves from the military dictatorship.

"The current revolution has garnered the support of people from all classes of society. This robust revolution has placed us in a position where we could achieve 100 percent success at any given time, given the right circumstances. However, in our journey towards a federal union, we cannot operate as a single state or nation. Therefore, if all other regions and states unite in the same manner as Karenni, and if we collectively undertake this revolution today, it is certain that the Military Council will fall tomorrow."

The Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC), responsible for implementing the self-government system in Karenni State, was founded on April 9, 2021, while the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) was established on June 6, 2023.

The Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) comprises the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF), winning MPs from the 2020 election, seven youth organizations in Karenni State, ten Karenni civil organizations, and four Karenni women's organizations.

The Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) was initially established with six members, one of whom was Khu Oo Reh, the chairman of KNPP.
