A four-star hotel is under construction in Mine Lone Ward of Loikaw Township in the Karenni (Kayah) State, the Kayah State Department of Hotels and Tourism’s deputy director U Linn Zaw Htut said.

“They said they will build a four-star hotel, but we can only give the rating after the construction is completed. If the hotel can offer accommodation up to the presidential level and includes swimming pools and rooms, it’s a four-star hotel. We will rate the hotel after everything is completed,” he said.

At least US$5 million (around Ks 6,000 million) will be invested in the hotel and Myanmar New Ray Co., Ltd will take charge in building the hotel.

The project period is from December 2017 to December 2019 and the hotel is expected to open in 2020.

Ye Htut Kyaw Company, which operates Mawchi lead mine, is the main investor of the hotel, which will become the biggest hotel in the Karenni State.

“Only Ye Htut Kyaw’s name has been included in the list of shareholders. I don’t know which local/foreign investors are included,” said U Linn Zaw Htut.

The hotel will offer 80 rooms and can accommodate 200 guests at the same time. It will also offer a hall that can hold up to 600 guests.

The Karenni State has received more private investment in the hotels and tourism industry within this year. There are 18 hotels and 384 rooms in Loikaw up to 2017.
