The Pa-O National Organization Party has fallen back on music concerts for its elections campaign in Pa-O villages in southern Shan State. Famous singers joined the concert to woo voters.

On October 18, the PNO demonstrated how to vote in the elections at mid-day in Pin Laung Township and famous Pa-O singers sang poll-related songs in the concert at night, locals said.

During the campaign, famous Pa-O singers like Khun Kham Chai, Khun Zaw, Khun Tu Lay, Nan Moe Moe San and Nan Seng Lao performed in the concert.

“They sang their famous songs from the “Golden Mango” album (Ta Khaw Khan Ya in Pa-O language). The ‘Golden Mango’ album was very famous in 1990. The PNL (Pa-O National League) also used these songs when it campaigned in the election in 1990. The singers also sang their new songs. Most enjoyed the concert,” a local said.

The PNO forced people to attend the previous election campaigns but very few joined because most were not interested. So, the PNO requested famous singers to join the election campaign.

“Many people are interested in the campaign now compared to previous campaigns. Now we are campaigning in Pin Laung. We plan to campaign in a similar fashion in Ho Pon and Se Hsai but I don’t know the exact date,” a PNO party member said.

Like the PNO party, Mon, Kachin and Shan parties have also produced music albums for the poll campaign. Some leaders composed the lyrics related to the election.
