Narinjara News has learnt that the Burma Army is intensively searching the Mayu Mountain Range for a bandit group that carried out robberies in Mayu Port in the southern part of Rathedaung Township in Arakan State.

Location of Mayu Mountain Range in North Arakan StateA woman from Chian-Khar-Le village said: “According to the news the group [of bandits] is hiding in the Mayu Mountain region between Sin-Pike and Dome-Pike villages. The army have had road blocks there and have been searching the area for the last two days.”

The leader of the bandit group is Adullah Keane. They came secretly by boat from Bangladesh and robbed a Muslim schoolteacher, U Shwe Maung, in his home last week.

A prominent local resident from Chain-Khar-Le village said: “Sayargyi U Shwe Maung is a Muslim schoolteacher. The Adullah Keane group robbed his home last week and took gold and money. They then also kidnapped a mullah from Tha-Wiin-Chaung village.”

Following these incidents the border security forces have been blocking roads and searching areas in the Mayu Mountains where they may be hiding.

That Abdullah Keane bandit group always comes to Maungdaw Township every year to commit robberies, normally they rob from Rohingyas.

Last year they also went to Kyauk-Paan-To Village in Maungdaw Township and killed four villagers, including the village headman and his pregnant wife.
