The Burmese military regime today morning ordered voting in advance for the nationwide referendum on May 10 in Sea Buu village and Lel Kayang village track in Phel Khon township, Shan state.

People who will not be able to vote on May 10 for emergency reasons or because they have to make a trip can cast his or her vote in advance, a local youth said.

About 30 locals went to cast votes in advance today. All of them gave 'no' votes, said a Kayang youth who is a human rights activist.

"When we were casting votes this morning, only two or three locals came to vote. After us, about 20 to 30 locals came. What I heard is that all of them cast the 'no' vote," said a voter who cast a 'no' vote.

People are not much interested in advancing voting because there are lack of facilities of ballot-boxes, offices and secrecy.

A human rights activist, who works in Kayang region, said that "people cast the 'no' votes in advance voting because they are not afraid. Our locals don't know about the constitution. So, when talking about 'yes' and 'no' votes, they are not interested. Therefore, they cast 'no' votes."

The junta authorities have threatened that people casting the 'no' will be put in jail and fined as punishment.

After advance voting in Sea Buu village and Lel Kayang village track, Phel Khon township, votes continued to be cast in Kayang villages in lower Phel Khon.
