An 18 years-old technological university student died after shot by the Burmese troops on his waist while driving his motorbike in Loikaw, the capital of the Karenni(Kayah) State.

Mi Reh, also known as Mi Kway, a first year student in Loikaw Technological University, reportedly passed away after sent to the Loikaw Public Hospital with severe injure on his waist from the gunshot.

loikaw_hospital“While we heard the gunshot, we thought it was a firework but it was not. The soldiers shot him. We sent him to the hospital right away but it was too late. He passed away in the morning.” told his family member.

Mi Reh was shot and killed on 10 May, Tuesday at 7:30 in the evening while he was on his way returning from his parents’ farm in Pakyeh Village, in Loikaw Township.

About Ten Burmese troops ordered him to stop his motorbike, but he failed to stop as he was scared of the troops, and then they shot him retold the victim before he passed away.

Mi Reh said, “I saw many Burmese soldiers were patrolling every night, but I don’t know which battalion they are from.”

It is still unable to identify which Burmese troops battalion fired gun on the student, but his family members are trying to appeal the case to the Burmese authority for further investigation.

The Loikaw Police Station was not reachable to comment on the accident as no official answered the phone call.

The local residents said that the Burmese army troops active in the area and the Regional Operation Command are increasingly patrolling in every checkpoint in Karenni State, stopping everyone who passes by and asking the local people to present their Identity cards.
