An unregistered 12 year old Rohingya refugee girl was raped in Leda Refugee Camp in Teknaf, Bangladesh according to Jalal a committee member from Leda Camp.
Sources have accused a local Bangladeshi staff member of NGO Forum who works in the camp of being the rapist.
The girl was raped on 29th October at about noon whilst she was alone in a shed and her mother had gone to buy medicine said Hussain a refugee from the camp. Others saw the alleged rapist entering the shed but thought he was just going about his work for NGO Forum.
Neighbouring refugees heard the victim scream and rushed to the shed where she was but the rapist had already run away. The victim was immediately taken to the Muslim Aids Clinic for treatment.
Unfortunately, the girl was in such a critical condition that she had to be referred to Cox’s Bazar Government Hospital for better treatment according to refugees.
A refugee elder said that police and members of the intelligence department made inquiries at Leda Camp. Police have filed a case against the alleged rapist, but they have not yet arrested him.
Refugees have said they are scared that the alleged rapist will threaten the victim’s neighbours and family who gave evidence of the rape to the authorities.
