Nearly 100 Civilians Arrested by Military Council as Human Shields, Some Beaten

According to reports, during the invasion of Hmaw Bone (Maden Yang) village in Hpakant Township by the Military Council column, approximately 100 civilians were taken as human shields and some of them were allegedly beaten.

A local man of Hpakant told KNG that a group of approximately 100 soldiers raided Hmaw Bone village around 4:00 a.m. yesterday, and then departed for Sankhar this afternoon, taking nearly 100 civilians as human shields.

"At around midday, some of them headed towards Sankhar, south of Hmaw Bone, while others went north. They divided themselves into columns and used civilians as human shields," he said.

Almost 100 civilians, primarily consisting of young and middle-aged individuals, were arrested and taken away with their hands tied behind their backs.

This morning, during a raid on Hmaw Bone village, the military council fired artillery shells and small arms indiscriminately, and set fire to a civilian home and an office building.
