Burma Army kills two villagers and burns civilian houses in Sagaing Region’s Htig yaing Township

Local people reported that Burma Army soldiers shot dead two villagers and burned down an unknown number of civilian houses in Htigyaing Township, Katha District, Sagaing Region.

"They shot dead Ko Kan Hlaing and Ko Pauk Sa, who originally lived in Pauk Net village. The two villagers were shot dead near Tong Lon village, which is located next to Pauk Net village. The two men were regular civilians," a local man (source 1) told NMG.

On 14 February, soldiers from a Burma Army military column patrolling on the eastern side of the Irrawaddy River in Htigyaing Township shot dead two men from Pauk Net village around 1 p.m. Pauk Net village is located near the Mya Tawng junction on the Bhamo–Mandalay highway in Htigyaing Township.

Elsewhere in Htigyaing Township, Burma Army soldiers from Infantry Battalion-121, which is based in Nga Oh village in Katha Township, burned an unknown number of civilian houses in Hintha village.

Local people reported that recently there have been three columns of Burma Army soldiers patrolling on the eastern side of the Irrawaddy River in Htigyaing Township. These military columns are known to destroy civilian houses and property.

The People’s Defense Force frequently clashes with the Burma Army in Htigyaing Township.

On 2 February 2023, the SAC imposed martial law in 37 townships across the country including Indaw, Bamauk, Kawlin, Pinlebu, Myaung, Sarlingyi, Pale, Yin Mar Pin, Khin Oo, Yay Oo and Tanse Townships in Sagaing Region. Htigyaing Township is not one the Sagaing Region townships under martial law.
