Almost 2 years after the military takeover, drugs are being sold openly in the villages of Lawksawk (Yatsauk) township.

"In our village, they pay the police and sell drugs. They have to pay 200,000 kyats per month. There was no arrest. They are selling openly," said a local man.

Locals said that when they went to the police station to report that they were selling drugs but they were threatened and driven away.

In addition, a resident of Pin Phyit village said that they have to pay a tax of 20,000 kyats to the Police Station Officer when selling cattle.

"It's very bad in the village. Even if you go to buy cattle to raise, you have to pay 20,000 per cow to the police. If not, they threaten. If you go to report about selling drugs, you will be driven away," he said.

Due to the coup d'état, drugs became abundant in Shan.

In addition, UNODC announced on January 26 that drug cultivation is the largest in Shan state.
