8 Military Council troops killed in Matupi battles

8 Junta troops were killed and at least 5 were injured in three clashes between the Military Council and Chin defense joint forces on January 22nd.

Battles broke out from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on January 22nd on the Hakha-Matupi Road, an area controlled by the Chinland Defense Force - Matupi (CDF-Matupi)’s 2nd Battalion, and Chin defense joint forces were able to successfully retreat without any casualties, information officer of CDF-Matupi, Aaron said.

“They resisted our attack using all their ammunition and weapons. Due to their superior weaponry, we retreated immediately after the operation”, he explained.

The Military Council and Chin defense joint forces had a total of 3 skirmishes, once between Nga Lai village and the district office, once near the Oh Ain Kone area near the district office, and once near the Pha Nai monastery. The attacks were carried out jointly by Chin defense teams of CDF-Matupi, CDF-Mara and CDF-Zotung.

On the morning of January 15th, a CDF-Matupi forward camp near Nga Lai village was raided by a 100-strong Military Council unit, killing a CDF-Matupi comrade. And 11 motorcycles, 7 mobile phones, a huge amount of rifle ammunition and about 15-lakh kyats of cash were lost in the attack, CDF-Matupi announced on January 16th.

In recent days, the fighting between the Military Council and the Chin defense joint forces has intensified in Matupi Township, and CDF-Mindat has appealed to the public to help the Chin resistance forces as much as possible.
