According to a statement issued by the Karen National Union (KNU), more than 30 regime troops surrendered and one soldier was captured alive during fighting that took place in Kawthoolei territories in October alone.

There were 286 clashes between KNLA/KNDO and a combined force of regime forces and the Border Guard Force (BGF), killing 369 soldiers and injuring 302 others on the junta side, while six comrades from KNLA/KNDO were killed and 46 others injured, according to the KNU’s statement.

In October 4, military council soldiers surrendered to the KNLA with full weapons, and another 32 junta forces also surrendered on the battlefield, and one soldier was also captured alive.

KNU announced that two junta soldiers committed suicide by drinking poison and two others died of disease in its camp.

Meanwhile, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) / Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) destroyed 18 vehicles used by the military council, and the junta conducted six airstrikes against the KNLA and KNDO, according to the statement.

The 50 junta battalions and four BGF battalions are conducting military operations in order to control the Kawthoolei area and are clashing with the KNLA/KNDO on a daily basis.

According to the KNU, more than 300,000 people are fleeing to safety as a result of the daily fighting in the Kawthoolei area, and more than 100,000 people need emergency humanitarian assistance.
