General N'ban La, the chairman of the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO) Central Committee, announced on the 62nd anniversary of the KIO's founding on 25 October that the KIO will soon establish a new political movement.
In the speech when he made the announcement he said: “The Panglong agreement was nullified by the 1947 Constitution so, indigenous people took up arms and began a revolution. The military dictatorship, when the military controls the country's sovereignty in perpetuity, only prolonged the civil war.”
He also said that the military rulers were responsible for the country’s poverty and all the difficulties it is now facing.
He also said: “The country is once again in a very complicated political situation as a result of the military’s return to power on 1 February 2021 and the people are once again suffering on all sides. As a result, we have developed a solution for the people that will eliminate the evil dictatorship.”
He said that to achieve these aims the KIO has to show responsibility and leadership and try in all possible ways to overthrow the military regime and he urged KIO members and the general public to actively participate in future political movements.
