Myanmar junta interrogation centre in Yangon bombed

Uncertainty surrounds the bombing of a Myanmar junta interrogation centre recently in Yangon.

No. (1) interrogation centre in Yangon's Hlaing Township and the Interrogation unit’s housing in Mayangone Township were attacked with remote-controlled bombs on the night of 12 October.

“We heard the explosion indicating that No. (1) interrogation centre located in 14 Ward, Hlaing Township was attacked with a mine in the evening. We haven’t heard anything more from the interrogation centre,” said a local resident.

Then, at 8:11 PM in Mayangone Township, a remote-controlled bomb was reportedly used to destroy the Interrogation unit's housing near the intersection of Bayintnaung Street and Oakkyin Budar Yone Street, locals said.

“We started the attack at around 8 pm and we don’t know which organization carried out the first attack at No. (1) interrogation centre. We didn’t attack it, we only detonated at the Interrogation unit's housing. We detonated using a remote-controlled mine, not with drones,” a spokesperson from Human Rights Defenders (HRD) said.

It is still unclear who launched the attack at the interrogation centre in Hlaing Township, he added.

The HRD spokesperson said: “We, HRD and allies, will continue to attack the Military Council soldiers to show that we will not change our beliefs.”
