Military Council establishes investigation team for mobile money services to prevent NUG, PDF, CRPH from receiving money

The military council has formed a mobile money investigation team consisting of members of Military intelligence, Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Bureau of Special Investigation and Central Bank to prevent people from donating to the National Unity Government (NUG), Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and PDF aiming at weakening the revolution, the sources close to the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

In recent days, an 11-member committee was formed to investigate mobile money services under Notification No. (139/2022).

This group is composed of the National Security Agency, Bureau of Special Investigation, Ministry of Home Affiars, Criminal Investigation Division (CID), the Ministry of Legal Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Immigration and Population, the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), and the Central Bank.

The mobile money investigation team will examine the KBZPay and WavePay accounts used by most of the people, and the central bank will either give the data of the mobile accounts to the investigation team or close the account.

Military Intelligence, Criminal Investigation Division (CID), and Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) will investigate, trace, arrest, and seal the houses of the financial providers.

The investigation team for mobile money service is led by Dr. Lin Aung, the vice president of the Central Bank, as the chairman, and the Brigadier General of Military Intelligence as the secretary, and the operation will be carried out with a large number of intelligence members.

There is speculation that the mobile money investigation team was suggested by U Khin Nyunt since the former head of military intelligence recently met with the junta chief.

In the second week of October, the military council closed many WavePay/KBZPay accounts to prevent people from donating to the revolutionary forces such as NUG, CRPH, CDM, and PDF, and also arrested those who provided money and sentenced them to long-term prison terms and death sentences, respectively.
