Over 100 Myanmar junta soldiers killed in Karenni State during September

During September over 100 junta soldiers were killed and over 60 were injured in at least 57 clashes in Karenni State, according to the The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF).

Of the 57 conflicts, there were 18 in Demoso Township, 14 in Hpruso Township, 11 in Loikaw Township, 9 in Pekon and Moebye townships, 2 in Shartaw Township, and 2 in Bawlakhe Township.

According to the KNDF, defence forces seized weapons and ammunition from the junta forces in these clashes. The seized weapons included three MA-1, three MA-2, and eight MA-3 assault rifles; one MG machine gun, one 60mm mortar, one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), explosives, and magazines. One military car was also destroyed.

The KNDF also lost five men in September’s fighting and said they would be recognised and commemorated as martyrs.

There were also civilian casualties in Karenni State during September. 10 civilians died and 19 were injured by junta artillery fire, one was killed and four others were injured by a buried junta landmine. Two civilians were also abducted and executed by the junta, according to the KNDF.

During September the junta army also started a new offensive and is still deploying more troops in the state.

Fighting in Karenni State between the junta forces and Karenni defence forces, including people’s defence force (PDF) groups, the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) and the Karenni Army (KA) is intensifying.
