Despite the difficulties, the celebration of 'World Teachers' Day' was held to honor teachers

A "World Teachers' Day" celebration was held in a village east of Demoso, on October 5th to honor the teachers who were trying to protect children's futures even in situations where artillery shells often explode.

“Although there are many difficulties, the teachers are devoted to their students and teaching. This period is very difficult. Even so, they are trying to teach the children, their brothers, and sisters. Therefore, as a recognition of the teachers, and to encourage them to continue doing such noble deeds, we decided to hold the ceremony”, Sayar Nelson said.

On the eastern side of Dimoso, the artillery fired by the military council often explodes, so the locals had to flee and live in refugee camps in the forest areas. The teachers in the camp were helping the children to be able to continue their education.

“If the children are not able to continue their studies because of difficulties, the progress of a country will cease. And the children's future will be lost”, Maw Kanramaw, a teacher in the camp said.

“If the teachers can't teach their pupils, the children's future will vanish. As a follow up result, the country will suffer too. Education is the key for the development of a country. If the children, who are the important human resources of a country, cannot learn, the country will not develop”, she added.

The "World Teachers' Day" ceremony was held in both Karenni State and at the Karenni refugee camp to honour the teachers.

In 1966, a special conference attended by International Governments and social organizations to sign the endorsement of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) had designated October 5 as World Teachers’ Day.
