23 civilians killed in one month in Tanintharyi

According to research group Southern Myanmar, the conflict and clashes that took place in Tanintharyi Region in September resulted in 23 civilian deaths and 6 injuries.

The civilians were killed during military raids and shooting while riding on motorcycles, and by the assassination of military-backed militia groups such as Pyu Saw Htee, Thwe Thout and Son Ye.

The resistance forces also killed members of  pro-junta groups-Pyu Saw Htee and Thwe Thou, and administrators as well as informants.

In September, there were fatalities among civilians in the townships of Yebyu, Dawei, Launglon, Palaw, and Tanintharyi, with Yebyu and Dawei having the greatest death tolls.

An official of the Southern monitor group said that this list is the number of deaths of unarmed people and that the actual figure could be higher on the ground.

There have also been incidents of accidental killings, and in some cases, family members have also been assassinated.

According to the Southern Monitor group, 247 civilians have been killed in Tanintharyi Region since the military coup on February 1 of last year until this September.
